After more than 20 years of career in graphic design and advertising, René Bégin started painting in 2010. Telling an active story through his works is René’s principal intention. His artwork sheds light on memorable moments in sporting. After several years of experimentation and stylistic research, René has developed a new and unique pictorial technique using acrylic paint and hockey tape pasted on wood canvases. He is one of only artists in the world to master this unusual technique. By matching the clean and clear lines of the ribbons with the stealth and uneven brush stroke, Bégin makes bright and colourful canvases with a unique finish. Bégin’s art style is defined as a contemporary, figurative genre that flirts with pop-art and vintage art. René Bégin’s inspirations are deeply enrooted in contemporary history from the fifties until the modern days.
